I got a DVD movie that contains AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. It cannot be played by a regular DVD player but only a computer with the PowerDVD or Windows Media Player. The DVD player displays “DATA CD MENU, ROOT, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS in the screen. Now I can only watch the movie in my computer. Does anyone know what the problem is? Is it because it may be downloaded/recorded from the web site (I ever heard it)? Can I convert it into some format so that it can be played by the regular DVD player?

What happens when you put it in a regular DVD player ?

What do you see inside the Video_TS folder on your HDD or through Windows Explorer ?

    Very good question Dubber.

I would also like to ask what DVD player are you using because some DVD players cannot play some burnt/copied DVDs.

Dubber asked “Did you burn those two folders to blank DVD as 'DATA' DVD???” I do not know because I bought it. However, after copying it into a blank DVD disc with the Nero, it now can be played on the regular DVD player though the original DVD still can’t.

Can you explain what the problem will be if burning those two folders to blank DVD as 'DATA' DVD? Why can't it be played on the regular DVD player but only the PC?

The data is in the form of Windows files, only a PC or a "Windows-friendly" DVD player can read them. What Nero did was take the information in those Windows folders and convert them to a DVD video format which any DVD player can read.

This is a big oversimplification, but you can burn two types of DVD discs. You can burn data discs and you can burn DVD format discs. Sounds like the original was burned as a data disc. As you learned, they are NOT the same thing.

Although it does not appear to be the case here, other issues that can effect playback on DVD players but not PCs are:
    media brand
whether you used DVD+R or DVD-R
DL is a whole other issue and is problematic for some people and on top of that you can have media bran and +/- issues with DL discs too
Your DVD player may require that burnable discs be burned as
"book type" which is a whole other issue too.

So, there are two types of DVD discs, the data DVD and DVD format disc. Why should the data DVD be burned and how to burn it as the data DVD?
