I have a computer with an AOpen DSW1812PL DVD-RW drive. I have DVDShrink and the lastest update to AnyDVD (6169) installed. I am unable to backup all movies. However, I can copy a copy of any movie. This leads me to believe that the copyright is not being removed (AnyDVD's job, right?) When I try to backup with DVDShrink, about 2 secs into Encoding I get the following error:
DVD encountered an error and cannot continue
Failed to read file "D:\"
Copy Protection Error - The read failed because the sector is encrypted.
Of the two computers that I normally do this on, the above works on one computer and does not on another.
I have tried other programs. I tried ripping with DVDFab Decrypter and then opening the files in DVD Shrink. My product is an Audio_TS and Video_TS folders. Audio_TS is empty and Video_TS had the following:
Video_TS
Video_01_0
Video_01_1
...etc.
I get an error as soon as I try to open the files:
DVDShrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to open file "C:\blah\Video_TS.IFO"
The system cannot find the specified file.
I got this error on both computers, which led me to believe I just did something wrong. Now, I have heard of ASPI files, but I do not know what they are. Could this be the issue? I believe that the problem is that the encryption is not being removed. That is why DVDShrink will not Encode the movie. Keep in mind, this not one particular movie that will not work. None do, unless it is a copy, that obviously has no encryption.
Recap:
Programs used are Nero7.10.1/DVDShrink 3.2/AnyDVD 6.1.6.9
and
DVDFab Decrypter
DVDShrink 3.2
In case you notice that the dialog boxes appear different, that is because one machine runs XP Pro and the other Vista Ultimate. The error in Vista dialog was the same error I got on the XP Pro machine.

On top off RipIt4Me,
DVDFab HD Decrypter
DVDFab Platinum (does ripping and transcoding, converting, burning, ect.)
I've never had anydvd on any of my pc's and i have yet to not be able to back up any protected commercial dvd.
If you are using dvdfabdecrypter then you have a very very outdated version because it was changed to DVDFab HD Decrypter long ago and regular updates are done to it in order to beat newer copy protections as they come out.
Same with anydvd, must be updated regularly to keep up with the latest protections.
What dvd's are you having trouble with ? -
I get this from time to time, but only with dirty or scratched discs. It assumes when it can't read a sector that it's using sector protection. Cleaning it usually works. If not, other tools like RipIt4Me sometimes will.
As a last resort, I'll use BadCopy Pro to try to recover the .VOB or whatever. Fails half the time and I pitch the disc. -

I also use DVDFabDecrypter ...then DVDShrink with no problems(I bought AnyDVD as a gift for my wife for her laptop). -
If using AnyDVD with DVDDecrypter...AnyDVD advises to make two changes in the Decrypter settings.
One is the change the " I/O Interface to ELBYCDIO" and cant remember the other but I'm sure it can be found on their site or somewhere.
I find it can work fine without making the changes but then I may have not hit the right disc that would demand the 2 changes.
Just some info I remember while reading about using the two together. May help, may not.
Good luck, NL -
I agree with the previous post. DVD Decrypter goes through any protection. Or you could try ISObuster and use dummy data to go over errors. I find that this overrides the problem with overly scratched discs and are deemed unreadable by other programs.
