  1. Ok this is a simple question. You know how a VCD is 80min with 700mb right? and a standard vcd is like 1250 kbit/s right? so that would allow you to fit 80 min on 700mb, can u fit a movie thats 90 min on a 700mb cd if i lowered the bitrate? then the size would be smaller right? and it should techinaclly fit right?

  2. yes that works. problem is that most standalone dvd players won't recognize any vcd longer than 82 minutes

  3. That and when you lower the bitrate, you take the chance of losing quality.

  4. I've made a 91min VCD, plays fine on my Apex AD600A (but then the Apex lines plays pretty much any/every thing). If you lower bitrate quality will go down. However, depending on your source and how you encode the quality hit varies.

If it's a DVD rip, 3-4pass VBR might still look pretty good. If it's a DivX source... well I know that flipping discs is annoying but bulk CDRs are ~$0.25/ea so I try to put ~60min per 80min CDR.

  6. It would work but I think you would loose more picture quality then you want.

If the movie has any credits in it or a long intro I would try cutting them out to shorten the movie.

I have made a dozen or so vcd's from 85-95 minutes using the new 99 min cdr's, they all play fine on all my players, these include a pioneer dv-c503, fisher 1100, apex 660ad, and daewoo dvd/tv combo.
