can u guys help me how to make the textbox disappear? when i playback a movie with a subtitle on my dvd player DVP3040K...the subs always appeared in a textbox. But when plaback on PC..it only appeared in text..and i prefer that way. How am i gonna make it disappear and only display the text (subtitle) instead of the textbox with the subs.

i usually used Subrip as the subs format. i've tried the tips on how to add permanent subtitle on a AVI video. And it helps a lot. the playback was smooth with the subs display in text. But it is time consuming. 1 movie for couple of hours. It is totally waste of time.

Can u guys help? Any software to encode/decode?

    TQ

If you explained your problem a little more someone might have an idea.

For instance, what do you mean by "textbox"?

This is how Philips display subtitles when playing a avi/divx. You can only change this in the firmware of the player - I have the same issue on my Philips DVDR 3450H. I have written to Philips asking them to change the firmware and make the background color in the textbox selectable (including transparent). - regards Pol

    thanks Pol..

So you mean there is nothing to do wit the movie format or the subs format? It's the firmware. And this report of yours, have you heard anything from them yet?? care to share..tq

DVP3040K has a problem with packed bitstream (playback jerky). and some guy from this forum advised to update firmware to philips DVP5100 model. The firmware will resolve the packed bitstream prob and smoothing the performance of the subs. i don know what does he means by 'smoothing the performance of the subs'. Maybe this term really work for my prob. But my question is; can the firmware be updated on other model?? And what is the consequences if i like to try??
