Hi I have a hauppage wintv pvr usb2 and it has a yellow red and white plug...the vcr I am capturing from however only has a yellow and white plug so i am forced to record with 1 channel audio, which lowers the volume....it has no line out jack like the pvr usb does just the composite plugs....i know this sounds like a dumb question but are there any "tricks" to getting 2 channel audio if onnly the capture device has a red plug...or am i stuck with one channel until i buy a new VCR???

Use a Y cable available at Radio Shack, WalMart, etc.

Does it have headphone or speaker sockets?
If so, you can get converter to RCA for that for a dollar or two (adjust the volume to get a strong sound with no distortion). The converter should have a resistor in it, not just straight-through wires. -
Or select mono instead of stereo as your audio format in your capture app??
No use in wasting that extra space for a duplicate audio track. -
Use a standard mono 2 wire patch cable (yellow & white 1/4" RCA). Plug yellow into the composite video out of your video card and the composite video in on your VCR. Plug white into the left out channel of your video card (should be white) and the white audio in on your mono VCR. Industry standard is that if no right channel audio is connected (red) to the output device it defaults to mono, combining both channels to the left out. Only use a Y connector to go from mono to stereo on the input device.

Hi, does using this cable make the audio signal quieter?
Is there any need to amplify it?
I´m also capturing video, with a pinnacle 500 USB, with good results, except this same problem with the mono output from my VCR.
Greetz,
Thankz.

No. It's line level at output and input so no need for amplification (amplification adds noise or distortion). Just as I said previously, use the left channel from the stereo device to the mono input. If nothing is connected to the right channel it combines both channels so that you do not lose half the sound.
