    Hi OG24,

Basically assume that the rule of GIGO is in effect with video projects (Garbage In, Garbage Out), although with the right set of tools alot of artifacts and such can be cleaned up.

I'd recommend a few free tools, such as FitCD, AVISynth, VirtualDubMod and VirtualDub (VDub has lots of filters that you can use to clean up your video output), but you'll llikely need a good MPEG-2 encoder to do the job. I'd recommend HC or QuEnc for encoders, I use them quite successfully all the time.

I'd also recommend reading and searching through the archives here on this site for similar projects others have done. You'd be surprised what a few well-placed search terms can dig up!

I just wouldn't encourage you to expect any grandiose looking output if your input isn't crisp.

    Cheers!!!

    the quality is real bad
The issue, when it comes to cleaning it up, is what sort of bad.

Is it bad because the transfer was poor, or the encoding was poor ?
Is the source quality the cause ?

We are still probably talking a matter of degrees when it comes to cleaning up. As was pointed out - Garbage In - Garbage Out. There is no general "fix everything" filter. Most filters are designed to fix a very specific issue. Some might have a couple of tricks up their sleeve. Depending on what needs to be done, there may be a filter that will help somewhat. You also have to realise that often a fix comes with a trade off. You might get rid of noise, but lose detail, for example.

I would suggest you post a couple of screenshots or a short clip so we can see what you have to deal with. And be realistic in your expectations.

Thanks, guns1inger! You hit upon what I was eluding to in better detail.

I agree if we saw a sample clip we might be able to make a more informed recommendation.

    Cheers my friend!
