    Hello,
I've just installed Adobe Premiere 6.0 Tryout to do some editing (Premiere Pro 2 not working). The problem is that the source files are in different audio video formats & for example I can play them normally in Media Player, but in the editing software there is only sound without video (although on the miniature there is video visible and you can even play it). Is there some kind of pack that I can install to have everything that I need? Now I have ffdshow and xvid and I can play everything I need but it is not visible in the editing software. I'm using Windows Vista.

Funny/interesting thing is that something may work in Virtual Dub and not work in Adobe Premiere. Example:

Video A | In Virtual Dub: sound OK, video OK | In Adobe Premiere: no sound, video OK
    Total duration is 0:07:46:01
Size is 185,29MB bytes (average frame = 16,91KB bytes)
There are 91 keyframes, 11560 delta frames.
    Frame rate is 25,00 fps
    Frame size is 720 x 576
    Depth is 24 bits.
    Compressor: 'XVID', XviD MPEG-4 Codec
    Audio track 1:
    Size is 7,11MB bytes
    Rate is 48000 samples/sec, stereo
    Sample size is 16 bits
    Compatible compressor: MPEG Layer-3 Codec
    Compression ratio is 0,22:1

Video B | In Virtual Dub: sound OK, video OK | In Adobe Premiere: sound OK, NO video
    Total duration is 0:10:19:13
Size is 2,04GB bytes (average frame = 145,74KB bytes)
This movie appears to have DROPPED FRAMES
    There are 15226 keyframes.
    There are 262 empty frames.
    Frame rate is 25,00 fps
    Frame size is 720 x 576
    Depth is 24 bits.
    Compressor: 'dvsd'
    Audio track 1:
    Size is 113,43MB bytes
    Rate is 48000 samples/sec, stereo
    Sample size is 16 bits

Older versions of Premiere don't like mpeg-4 (Xvid/Divx) all that much. It is a poor choice for footage that needs to be edited, so most editors don't work well with it. The simplest solution would be to load it into virtualdub and save it as DV avi, then edit it.
