  1. Hi,
I have read all through this site and tried all the tricks to get an asf file to convert and still have no luck. When using Virtual dub 1.3c it tries to reconstruct asf index block but then gets the error that says "couldn't locate decompressor for format MP4S (unknown)" Tmpgenc took 3 days and then errored out at the end with no audio. Graphedit puts the video upside down when using divx video compressor and none of the other filters seem to work in it as well. I tried buzzinhornets guide to graphedit and could not get the windows media decoder to link with the avi renderer. I have alot of patience for this kind of thing and will try anything else you guys come up with. These files I'm using say they are .avi but they appear to really be .asf (virtualdub gives it away)

  3. Install the appropriate decoder then. You can find a package of files that includes the MSMPEG4 V1,2 & 3 codecs. It is widely available on the internet, and you will need it for encoding ASF.

Another tip is to try to find an alternate source, as ASF files are in horrible horrible quality, and they become EVEN WORSE when you convert them to MPEG.

Just a question, are you dealing with Movie trailers? because many movie trailer sites do that. (Advertise as hosting AVI files, which are just renamed ASF's).
