  1. System: P3 1ghz, 256mb, ATI Radeon AIW, MMC 7.1

I am a Brit living in the USA. When I came over I brought some video tapes with me, recorded in UK PAL. Now, I just acquired a JVC multisystem VCR which can play these tapes, feeding the output into my radeon card in PAL standard. The tapes play great, the problem occurs when I try and record. The recording starts ok but after 29 seconds, always the same time, the playback loops approx 1/2 sec of video over and over, the audio continues correctly.
This is frustrating as I was hoping to convert my tapes to VCD's. Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks

  3. hmmm, copy protection eh? Thanks Patrick for the suggestion but could this be right as the tapes were ones I recorded myself off of Satellite in the UK. Or could my UK recorder have recorded the copy protection too?
I am running winME by the way.
    Thanks

This happens to me as well (Macrovision enabled) when I tape MTV Europe on my SHVS VCR.

I've been looking for a Macrovision patch for video input for a while. I'm glad it's availalbe on doom9.

  5. Well thanks for all your suggestions. I have done some reading etc and yes my problem is with the macrovision protection as you thought. I downloaded and applied the patch from doom9 with no effect. It says it patched the file successfully but there is no change to the recordings. It does say in the text though that it disables the protection on the TV input, only? I have been using RCA video & audio connection. I tried to connect the VCR via the antenna cable but can't get a picture on the Radeon. Of all the countries listed on the TV Tuner setup screen UK is not one of them, I can't believe they left the Brits out!
    Anyone have any further ideas?
    TIA

I am having the same problem with video playback looping after 30 second. When I first had the card with MMC 7.0 the playback would loop after 30 secs regardless of the video source, either home video from camera to VHS tape to capture or TV to VHS to capture or TV to capture.

Upgraded to latest drivers and MMC 7.1 from the ATI web site and everthing was fine including the same sources above. In the last week I got a VHS tape that had come from camcorder to VHS (PAL) tape to capture and get the same problem. Loops after 30 seconds, sound OK through tape and the unlooping video plays in a narrow band at the top. This also happened on another short video in one particular spot but I managed to join three separate captures together to edit out the looping. Painfull for a short video impossible for a medium to long capture. I do not believe either of these two problem videos would have macrovision as at least the first one came from Camcorder to VHS (Beta) to capture. Maybe the Macrovision detection is incorrectly kicking into action ??? I will keep trying to find to problem and re-report to ATI if necessary. Have you reported it to ATI ???

I loaded the unsupported beta driver from the ATI site and it resolves the 30 second looping but leaves the changing from light to dark every 7 seconds or so.
