    what is hd?is it a dvd format?can you convert other video formats like avi,xvid,vob into hd?if yes than how?

    HD means dimensions and resolution - 1280x720 and 1920x1080. It is an overused term. You can encode MPEG2, H264, etc to these dimensions. If your source files are smaller, like 720x480 or 720x576, then you'll be doing "upsizing" or "upresing", which looks pretty bad. Trying to upres a vob file at 720x480 to 1920x1080 will display many ugly artifacts.

    And for all practical purposes, No, you cannot convert "other" video into HD. You can take an HD source and encode it to the format of your choice. But you cannot take a SD (or worse) source and "convert" it to HD. The data isn't there.
