    Hi, ive been using vlc for over a year now and it has worked just fine for me but i've now come across a set of videos that i can't seem to get to work right. When i try to get them to start up in vlc the program right away comes up with an error. which is;

    AppName: vlc.exe AppVer: 0.8.6.0 ModName: libmkv_plugin.dll
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00046466

I can get it to somewhat play in windows media player, but there are a few problems.
    1) the audio cuts in and out, and is pretty low when it does work.
    2) sometimes the audio sounds likes how all the adults talk on charlie brown, lol
    3) there is an error before it starts to play the video, saying that the file "contains embedded true types fonts"

Any suggestions on what i should do?

The only advice given was to "Delete your %appdata%/vlc folder" which i can't find. i did a search too and came up with nothing, so if that folder exists, i can't find it.

I'm a n00b too but here's my suggestion: convert the files to a different format using conversion software. That's the first thing I would do.

have you tried, dl and re-installing vlc, .

what does gspot or mediainfo say about the files you want to play

    RES & codec

it looks like these might be mkv with h264 or x254 codec and higher than avg res & bitrate

which means you nned too upgrade vlc

I have a couple of these, they play in vlc but NOT in MPC and are a PITA to try and convert

I'm hoping the new FREE/cheap avch264 codec will be finished soon

Yea I’ve tried 2 different versions of VLC, and I’ve tried re-downloading it. But that didn’t help any. I opened the file in gspot, and in the container box it says :

"file type: Matroska media file (.MKV)
    Mime Type: video/x-matroska"

In the video box for status it says:
    "ready (214 codecs loaded)"

No other boxes have anything in them (besides file which is jut path and size). My current version of VLC is 0.8.6c hope that helps.

for matroska use mediainfo for more info

    "Delete your %appdata%/vlc folder"

    would be something like:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\vlc\

You could try using Media Player Classic. I find that files that I can't play using VLC would work on MPC.
