I cut / ripped my first DVD last night ....It came out great XCEPT

The characters stutter when they move (dropped frames) ???

Is this due to DVD2AVI or DVDDecryptor ? I don't think it was TPMG ...Anyone else have this problem ?? I was following SEFY's guide and all went well except that ..... So it is NEAR perfect but close doesn't count with the stutter.

  2. You need to give more info. Where is it "stuttering"? Is it in a burned vcd, svcd? vbr, cbr? settings? etc does it Stutter in WMP or just in your stand alone dvdplayer? maybe your bitrate is set too highg for your dvd player.

Sorry...Here is more data. I had posted earlier with more info

I used DVD Decryptor to copy

    Then DVD2AVI

Then TPMG to create a MPEG 1 VCD NTSF compliant VCD

In both PC and DVD player, picture is BEAUTIFUL and minimal motion is fine. But if SNOW white swings here arms, prince charming rides a horse, its like being on drugs. You see ghosted images of movement "like a stutter' . If they stop, the picture does not have a FLICKER to it at all.

It is different than dropped frames where dropped frames look like a miniscule pause, this is more like a jitter.

    Any thoughts ????

  4. 1) snow white is of type FILM, PROGRESSIVE, 23.976 FPS (as stated by the info box in dvd2avi when you start creating the project file...or just press f5 when you load the vobs into dvd2avi)

    2) this means use FORCED FILM in dvd2avi

    3) in tmpgenc, u need to use the NTSC >>> FILM <<<< template rather than just the regular NTSC template

    4) other possiple causes of the juttering could be you choose the wrong field order (the juttering will only show up on TV, not computer monitor)....this assumes you turned FORCED FILM off in dvd2avi and made your output video interlaced, rather than use 3:2 pulldown in tmpgenc

    5) also, make sure you set motion search accuracy to high quality (slow)

Actually I always leave forced film on in dvd2avi, so far even when I have come accross the very rare interlaced dvd the final product has come out fine.

  8. sommersby,

are u sure the one's you're talking about is only a small percentage interlaced. the movies that are 100% NTSC or close to it will not come out right if you use forced film in dvd2avi because they're not film, they're NTSC.
