Hi there
I run a very small business that records sports matches for a professional team. The DV format that I file using my trusty Canon XM2 is saved in .avi format and I cut DVDs for the opposition and referee. We then rip the DV format to MPEG and the coaches use a sports analysis program that creates either clips or joined clips in MPEG format and this suffices for analysis and feedback to players.
For my own reasons I want to hold the whole season's games - in .avi format - on a couple of 500GB hard drives. I also want to be able to hold indexes into every one of these games in lots of different categories. Mainly by player and by play (e.g. penalties, free kicks, player number)
I then want to be able to play each clip on demand. And it has to be in .avi format. It would also be good if I can get them all joined, but this isn't an absolute necessity.
I have researched this to the best of my ability, but none of the standard database or analysis packages seems to be able to cope with this. Am I shooting for the moon? Or I am missing something very basic?
Regards
Chief Swatcher

Most programs have issues simply cataloging multiple files/clips. I've never seen any that will index specific points within a file.
