Before anyone shoots me here, I've done a lot of research and reading![]()
Source video: 720*576*25 interlaced, VHS capture.![]()
Destination: 480*576*25 MPEG2 interlaced or progressive
Bitrate settings: min 2450, max 2600 both CCE and TMPGEnc
Used software and settings tried:
CCE 2.62 settings:CBR, 1 (2,3,4) pass VBR, Q1, image priority 5, low bitrate matrix, progressive checked and not checked (interlace)
TMPGEnc different versions: CBR, VBR, motion search slow and very slow,
soften block noise, no half pel motion search, default matrix
Results for (my) very high motion scenes:
CCE 2.62 deinterlaced/progressive: no macroblocks, a bit fuzzy and lacks motion fluidity and clarity compared to source
TMPGEnc deinterlaced/progressive: macroblocks all over the place and fuzzyness etc as CCE.
CCE 2.62 interlaced/non progressive: macroblocks in the high motion scenes, but great detail/fluidity/clarity.
TMPGEnc interlaced/non progressive: sorry guys, but the result is absolute crap! HUGE amount of macroblocks. Clarity, detail etc...same as CCE.
Seems to me that interlaced MPEG2 needs more bandwith?
Also tried both zigzag and alternate block scanning in CCE, still macroblocks...
And yes, noise filtering is applied to source.
Also, non visible borders (when played on my tv) are masked out.
Don't tell me to capture in 352*288 because (in my case) it has not the same amount of detail as 720*576.
Anyone has the same problems and maybe a solution?
Regards,
Manuel.
