  1. Hi All,

I'm sure this question has been asked...

I'm planning on renting a Sony HVR- A1U Pro HD (Mini DV) camcorder to record weekend basketball games, and I would like to record in HD.

I have Sony Vegas 7.0e, so I don't see a problem with me creating and editing the video.

What I'm not sure about is how to record the data on to disk.

I'd would like to know how everyone is recording HD video to disk, and what type of disk are you using? Are there any HD blank disk available, if so what HD device would I need to record? Can I use DVD+R DL disk?

    Thanks in advance.

    Matt

Make a HD-DVD or Bluray using for example Ulead DVD Moviefactory or https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/authoring-bd-hd-dvd . See http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=705146I

You can burn on dvd+rdl or get a hddvd or bluray writer.

Save the rental. HDV camcorders do not record HD from the analog inputs (480i only) nor from normal HD cable/sat box IEEE-1394 MPeg2_TS/TP. They only import DV/HDV format over IEEE-1394. There may be exceptions but I haven't seen any.

The various ways to record digital channels (assuming North America).
    1. HD Locals: ATSC HD tuner card, QAM tuner card (for cable) or IEEE-1394 MPeg2_TS out to computer using CAPDVHS or equiv. capture software.
    2. HD cable channels: Some cable systems leave QAM channels free of encription. Some pass these channels over IEEE-1394 as MPeg2_TS. Mileage will vary.

As for recording HD to disk, I usually use MPeg2 or Divx/wmv HD to hard drive or as data to DVDR and play back from the computer.
