    Apparently this model will only play back recorded DVDs that are in VR mode. All my backups burnt on DVD-R will not play any more. DVD+R disks, including DL will play. Since I have over 100 DVD-R disks left, is there any way to burn these in VR mode so they don't go to waste?

    Nero allows burning in VR mode.

    Yes, but not to DVD-R disks. Or can it? I couldn't figure out how.

    Sorry VR mode only works with DVD/RW.

    Firmware upgrade fixed this problem. It now recognizes DVD-R disks and plays.
