Yo all
I have Two AVIs... with the resolution
320x240
and
160x120..
I would like to join them up together... is there anyway i could get a program to change the resolution of 160x120 to 320x240.. i know it will go all pixelated and crappy... but that doesn't matter.. i just need to join them up?
thanks
Ed

You re-encode one or the other to match. Drop them into Gspot 2.70 to see the present format and codec used. Pick that same codec in VirtualDub and set the bitrate at least as high as the existing videos, maybe higher. Try a short clip of maybe 5 minutes of representative video and see how it looks. Increase the bitrate till it looks good. Then, if the two file formats are exactly the same, including the audio, they will join easily.
They won't go 'pixelated and crappy' if you use enough bitrate.I would re-encode the 160 X 120 to 320 X 240. Both framesizes are likely low quality, so you can't hurt them much.
And you could have just added this to your other post. -
so i can make the resolution of the 320 x 240 bigger without making it rubbish quality i.e. pixleation?

You may have to boost up the bitrate to somewhat higher than your 320 X 240 files and if you are using VirtualDub and the 'Resize' filter, I use Precise Bicubic .75 for the filter mode settings. Try a short clip and see what it looks like. The other option is to downsize to the lower framesize and use Lanczos3, which will have less of a problem with pixelation but not look too great unless viewed on a cell phone.
320 X 240 is below VCD quality, so you don't have a lot to work with. Most times, 'pixelation' is because of too low a bitrate.
Also make sure all the settings are exactly the same between both files, including the audio. You can join some files with a program like AVIDemux which isn't as critical as VD, but those framesizes are a little too far off for practical joining, IMO. -
yo redwudz.. thanks for your help
my two files added together are about 90mb.. then i save as AVI in virtual dub the final avi becomes to avi... i have no idea what codec to use.. i just want a codec that most media players can play..
Gspot says its MJPG - motion JPG.
i dont see no codec in virtual dub for that :S -
Software media players or a stand alone DVD player? For a Divx standalone player, either Divx or Xvid should work, as long as you use a Divx player compatible format. For a computer software player, just about any format would work.
Or for a regular DVD player, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. VirtualDub will only output AVI type files. I use VirtualDub Mod to open MJPG files. For what you have, you could probably use SUPER and output in MPEG or whatever you want. You could adjust the framesize there also. Windows Movie Maker can also open them, but it only outputs in WMV or DV AVI.
There are a lot of ways and programs to do all this. It depends on what output format you want or what you want the file to play on.
There are a couple of MJPG codecs in our 'Tools' section, but the two I see are both payware. I would just convert the video to a different format. -
I have two mjpgs i just want to get them the same resolution etc so i can join them together... I previously had 3 mjpg's the same resolution and joined them then 2 mjpgs another size and joined them.. so to join the two final mjpgs up i need to make them the same resolution etc..
also if i use virtual dub to re join the mjpgs and just save as massive avis... any chance i could convert to mpeg and make them a loot smaller? or will they still be huuge?
I want to just put them onto a dvd so normal dvd players can play them and so people can watch on tv or just watch on pc if they got dvd software
When i open super i get to choose video scale, aspect, fps, bitrate etc.. any way i can improve the VIDEO...like make it not pixelated etc? if so could you tell me what i need to do thanks
lastly.. what would be the best program to replace the audio.. i want to put a better recording to replace the original audio? -
To recap:
You now have 2 MJPG files of 320 X 240 and 160 X 120.
You want to put them all on a DVD.
Just my method, but I would open each in VirtualDub Mod, then frameserve each to a MPEG encoder. https://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubframeserve.htm I frameserve to TMPGEnc, but other encoders such as CCE or probably HC may work.
In VDM, resize each video to a DVD compatible framesize, such as 352 X 288. You can use Precise Bicubic as mentioned before. Others may have better advice on which resize filter to use. Disable the audio track as you apparently don't want it anyway. Or you could make up a new audio track and 'add' it back in. I would use WAV format for that. It will be large. Also you probably need to do a framerate conversion unless your video is 25fps at present.
Then you frameserve each video to the MPEG encoder, resulting in two MPEG files. When you put them both into a authoring program, they will be joined seamlessly. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author for that, but GUI for dvdauthor will also do this, with a little more work.
With any encode, you need to know the running time of all your files. That's what you base your bitrate on. Higher bitrate=higher quality=larger filesize most times. One hour of video on a DVD will usually be the optimum quality. With your source quality, you should be able to get up to two hours or more with good quality. Use a bitrate calculator to set the bitrate. There are several in 'Tools'. I would try VCD format for the encode at 1150Kbps, 352 X 288. You will have to change the audio to 48Khz sample rate as VCD audio sample rate is 44.1Khz. TMPGEnc encoder is freeware for MPEG-1 encodes and highly recommended.
I know this is a lot to throw at you at one time. But if you find the system that works for you, it's a lot easier the second time. You 'may' be able to drop your MJPGs in a program like ConvertXToDVD and it 'may' be able to process them instead. But you have resizes, format conversions, audio substitutions, probably framerate conversions, and joins of dissimilar files, and authoring to DVD format. That's a lot of changes to make.
