No. Forwarding ports does not affect speed.

If you are using bittorrent clients then yes forwarding your ports will lead to faster speeds. Check out www.portforward.com for more info.

If you have more than one computer connected to router, port-forwarding is important for p2p applications like e-mule (absolutely necessary, otherwise the central server will give you 'low ID'), less important for torrent connections. Without it other people, having no port-forwarding will never connect to you. You'll lose speed in torrents with low number of peers.

to open your ports in your all in one. you need to access the reouter. im guessing you know that since you said you did it with cable. but you need to go into the router config and set ports. it could be called port trigggering IE computer might use a port like 112 out to ask for something that will come on port 6666 for example. thats a common thing with IRC clients for file xfrer. the numbers used are geneirc. you can set the trigger and the open to the same number. if your using BT that program needs ports in the 68XX range only one but the client will say in its config what it is . you can set the operating port to what ever you want. if you dont know how to open the ports after getting in your router config. go to a port scan site and scan for open ports if you find one set that in your BT client.

If you are just serfing opening ports will have no affect on speed as someone else stated.

most routers ip addresses are 192.168.x.x some are 192.168.1.1 some are 192.168.0.1 as a default. google your router on the net for IP . its posted somehwere.
