  1. I recorded a dance at a childrens dance recital. I recorded straight to DVD. Now, I want to edit the recording and don't know how to capture to my editing program (Adobe Premiere Pro). How do I do this? Or is there another way to edit this show?

    Do this:

That should give you a good head start. Premiere Pro will import MPEG-2 just fine.

  3. Thank you, Lordsmurf, I gave that a try. I already had the program and used it but it only gave me a VOB again. I already had that from using DVD Shrink previously to make several copies. I tried the Womble software and it's impressive, however, I got an idea to check my WINAVI program and sure enough, it has a VOB to AVI feature. It worked, I got my edit into Premiere and the job is done.

    Thanks for kickstarting my brain.

A VOB, in this instance*, is nothing more than an MPEG. Just rename the file from FILENAME.VOB to FILENAME.MPG.

WinAVI is awful quality. You'd do best to do what I said. If you want to create an AVI for editing, open the MPEG in VirtualDub Mod and then save to uncompressed AVI.

    * This ONLY applies to certain situations, usually DVD recorders and DVD cameras, not DVD releases or homemade DVD authors.
