I've got an old Dell 233 laptop I wold like to use to view videos in my workshop. The problem is the machine does not seem to be fast enough to run the wmv file I made using WMM. It's got an 864kps bitrate and a size of 640x480. I figure if I cut it in half of those settings I'll be ok. Can anyone help me do this? I've been trying, honest! to look through the forum, but I guess I'm not using the wrong search terms.

Come on you youngn's, help an old codger out...

    Thanks gang,

    Hal

I don't use WMM much, but it has quite a few different bitrates available to save out your file with. Try a setting with a lower bitrate. I won't guarantee that will solve your problem, though. Even a slow machine should be able to play back most WMV files at 864Kbps. But give it a try. Here's a screen shot of WMM page for output bitrates:

Other possibilities are your hard drive is too full or needs defragging. Or your video card settings or drivers need changing or updating. I assume you are playing the file from the hard drive?

    Hi Redwudz,

I tried your suggestion, I did Hi Quality Vid (small), and it's running fine. But now I have no sound! ARGH! Any idea what on earth happened to it?!? You don't think just because it says "video" it's no sound, do you?

    Thanks,

    Hal
