Use Gspot to determine the Codec that is used in your video. You can then load that one. Avoid Codec packs; they can create a lot of problems.

Post here what codec GSpot says it uses. Also post the resolution. You should be aware that any H264/X264 file larger than 1280x720 may be too much for your PC to play back. H264/X264 are really pushing the envelope and they're a little ahead of the home PC technology curve for most people. Probably 5 years from now you'll play them with no problem, but right now playback of these files with resolutions greater than 1280x720 is problematic on a large number of PCs.

By the way, your audio is PCM, which is WAV format. You don't need anything special for that, so whatever your problem with the file is, it's video related.

Try MediaInfo, since it seems you have MKV and MP4 files. GSpot's good, but its support for MKV and MP4 files may or may not work for everything. (though I may be wrong)

peterg60, Do us all a favor and write in complete sentences with periods at the end. It is difficult to read your lazy writing. I see you are in the UK so there are people all around you who can help with the language if you need it. If you make an effort to write so that people can easily read it, more people will help you with your problem.
