I have a movie that is in .avi format. I put it in ConvertXtoDVD and it went through all the motions and so on when it was done I put it in my DVD player and it did nothing. It said there was no disk. I have used VCDEasy in the past with no trouble but I had to put the movie on several disk and I'm trying to avoid that. Any solutions ??

I assume you mean you put it on a DVD, as that's what ConvertX creates.
Have you tried to play the disc on a computer? Or if you can open it in a computer, does it have the full DVD structure? See 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left on this page for the DVD structure and format.
What brand DVD media are you using?
And welcome to our forums. -
I have tried to play it on my computer and there is no data. The disc are imation DVD+R disc. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here although I don't understand all the conversion and that goes along with putting a movie to disc. I thought with that program it would be simple to just add the movie and the program would do what it had to do to get it to playback mode on a home DVD player but that just didn't happen
Any suggestions ??

ConvertX is fairly dependable on converting AVI type video to the DVD format. It may be your converter program, your source video or your burner or your player. But I would first try a different brand of DVD media. Media seems to be the cause of many read problems. And it's the easiest thing to change.
You can look up your DVD media to the left in 'DVD Media'. Imation DVD+R is made by several manufactures, some OK, some not.
If you get the media code off one of the discs, that will tell you the real manufacturer: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmediaform.php?dvdinfo=1#dvdinfo
For general DVD media information, go to: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
But try some different brands. -

I insert a blank dvd+r disc and then I start ConvertXtodvd then I go to the folder where the .avi file is and click add file then I hit start. It goes through all its encoding or whatever then after awhile it ejects the cd and says done. But yet it wont run on my pc or my dvd player in my house.

And if you open the DVD under Windows Explorer you don't see any folders ? Not one called Video_TS ?
Install the freeware program Imgburn - best DVD Video burning application there is.
Go into the general settings for ConvertXtoDVD and turn off burning. ConvertXtoDVD will now create a folder on your HDD called Video_TS with your DVD structure in it.
In Imgburn, set the mode to Build, then browse for a folder. Find the Video_TS folder created by ConvertXtoDVD. Set the output for Imgburn to DVD (not image) and burn your disc.Read my blog here.

That did the trick
Thanx so much for the help. I noticed that the names of the actors are sort of off the screen some. Is there settings I can mess with to make the viewing area for tv better and if so what sort of settings do I want to set. Again thanx for the help.

The problem is called Overscan and it occurs on commercial discs and broadcast TV as well. Most modern (post TV) movies account for it, but older films may not. The solution is to reduce the image size, then pad out the resolution with black borders. The problem is that overscan varies form TV to TV, so on one TV you will still lose some image, and on another you see the borders.
ConvertXtoDVD does not have a setting to account for this. If it is a major problem - which it can be for some videos with subtitles - then you can use FitCD to create an avisynth script to resize and add the borders, and load this into ConvertXtoDVD instead of the original avi file.
FAVC has settings to add borders, however it uses HCEnc or Quenc, so it is substantially slower than ConvertXtoDVD.Read my blog here.

Or you could just buy a new Plasma TV (they are going at fire sale prices due to LG's overmanufacture of them) and play your discs on that.
Half of the reason I bought a Plasma can be summed up in two words: no overscan. Such is also the case with LCD, but LCD is less affordable and in my opinion too prone to dead pixels.

Well just checked it on the Princo and it worked. *does a happy dance* Funny thing though...It didn't work on RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. Freezed like the other ones. Still lots of thanks to all of you. And I'll be visiting tomorow to see how to fit two movies on one DVD with menus since the movie only took up 46% of the DVD.
