The tape got caught up in the VCP in my van, and I am looking for the kits that used to be available. Did a Google and what I found is not even moderately priced. Anyone here have any ideas or resources?

    Thanks in advance

You don't need a kit. Buy a blank tape and cannibalize it. If the tape broke in half, then make two new tapes. It's not as easy as it sounds, kit or no kit. There are a lot of springs and small loose pieces inside a tape, so be observant. The best new tapes are ones that are connected with screws, not plastic pins that are melted into place.

I've done it before...just can't locate my splice kit in the house. That's why I want to get a new one.

Try a search for 'vhs splicing tape' and you should get quite a few hits. With the tape tabs, you just need a steady hand and single edged razor blade. Overlap the ends and slice through both layers. A splicing block is better for alignment, but if you are only joining a broken tape to play it back one more time, it's not so critical. Most likely the tape is stretched near the break, so that part is probably not usable anyway.

Don't use a fast rewinder with it again and transfer the video off, then toss the repaired tape.
