    Hello!
I need help capturing video and audio from my Sony Hi8XR camera to my computer which I just made.

I have an e-GeForce 8800 GTS Video card that comes with an RCA to card input conversion cable, and a 2 sides S video cable which fits into my cam and the same card input slot.

For software I have sony Vegas 7.0 and Adobe Premiere Pro (and Windows Movie Maker).

Basically I have the cables neccesary to hook up my analog cam to the computer but I haven't been able to figure out how to make the picture in VRT or Cam mode on the camera appear in any capture window.

I don't have enough money to buy a good digital camera but I have a great computer, I just wish there was a way to make it work with the Hi8!

Is that a VIVO card? Otherwise the ports are video out only.

Edit: appears its output only, thats what the spec sheet lists: http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/320-P2-N811.pdf

You need a capture card or something to convert it to digital.

    Here's some basic info: www.nepadigital.com/articles/analog-capture.php

Yup thats the one I have. Damn, that sucks.
I'll look into some converters and thanks for the links - very helpful!

I'm guessing things like the Canopus ADVC 110 would be hooked up to the computer using a firewire cable and captured like a digital camcorder would be?

I'll look around see if I can somehow use a DVD player or somethign liek that, I also have an older computer with an AllInOne card that call RCA inputs - I'm not sure if the signal is good tho, I've never tried it (or how I can even transfer stuff).

For the Canopus yes, most other devices are either PCI or USB. There's another firwire device called the Adstech Pyro that is similar to the Canopus but cheaper. Anything decent is going to cost you $150 plus . The beauty of the canopus is it just works. Plug it in and start capturing, you won't have any trouble unless you have some serious issues with the tapes.

If that's an ATI AIW, especially if it has the theatre 200 chip you can get excellent results as long as you get it working properly. If it is check here for capturing with it: www.digitalfaq.com

I recently purchased an Avermedia DVD EzMaker gold PCI card from Tigerdirect that I'm pretty happy with. Video quality from analog tapes has been about the same as my DV camcorder. Just plan on a lot of hardrive space. It uses about 19 meg a second when I'm capturing uncompressed AVI, versus 3 meg a second for my DV AVI. The nice thing is it only cost about 20 bucks.
