I have several m2t files that I've recorded from my DV-R set top box from firewire. They are mpeg-2 "stream" files. I'm getting odd playback results when I transfer these clips to DVD. The video is either shakey during parts of the video clips where their is quick movement (for instance someone running or waving their hand), or it looks as if the video is being played behind a piece of glass, sort of pixelated but more like a slight water reflective effect. My process has been this

clip.m2t file > import to ffmpegx > convert it to a "DVD ffmpegx" (video ts file structure turned off) > I get a clip.mpg file > I do this to all clips > I import several of these mpgs to toast > burn as a DVD > they turn out shakey

Is their something I'm missing in the process I need to adjust in ffmpegx? Am I converting to a wrong format? Is their a different way to create a DVD from several m2t files?

I read that mpegstream clip works well with the QT component add-on pretty well, and I'll try this, but I feel it has something to do with the conversion process and not toast or idvd, because I tried both burning techniques, same result.

One thing is that you don't have to go as far as actually burning discs to test things (saves on coaster-making). Just play the files created on your HD prior to burning. If that plays fine, but the burned result does not, then there's an important clue as to where the problem may lie.

As to other possibilities (such as interlace/deinterlace issues), there are so many that it would help if you could post an example of the settings you are using. Information about the source and target characteristics would be helpful in narrowing the list of what could be causing your problem. And it would be very helpful to post the contents of the info log (click on the blue "i" in the Progress window), so the next time you do a conversion that doesn't quite work out, save that logfile and post its contents.
