  1. The deadline for manufacturers to have to include HD (ATSC) tuners in DVD recorders is coming up about now isn't it?

When are we going to see prices slashed on the old stock?

I've advised a friend to wait to get one that way cheap. (She only wants to convert from VHS and LD anyway).

  2. I hope you advised right. I don't expect to see price drops. The retailers can continue to sell models without ATSC tuners. THe makers cannot make models with Analog and no ATSC tuners so there are recorders with no tuners being sold now. Since a model with a analog tuner is still more useful right now than a model with no tuner I do not expect price drops. YMMV.

  3. It never ocurred to me that they would sell DVD Recorders with no tuners.
Do you know any make and model numbers for these no-tuner recorders? Are they particularly inexpensive? My overall goal is to find my friend a decent DVD recorder in the $80-$100 range (HDD included would be nice, but probably not going to happen in that price range.)

  4. Here is one from Best Buy for example. Note that I'm not reccomending it.

It seems pretty basic to me. No Tuner, No S-Video in or out so image quality will be ? Since even at wholesale I'm guessing a 80Gb hard drive would cost around $30 to $40 No hard drive.
IOWs you get what you pay for.
