    I have a movie consisting of part 1 & 2 AVi's.
Normally I use an AVi Joining program so I have one large, continuous AV1 to watch on my DivX enabled DvD player.
However this movie is subtitled and comes with a matching SRT file for part 1 & 2 AVi's.

How can I merge the AVi's and watch them as an AVi on my DvD player and still have subtitles?

It depends on the avi. For the most part if means either naming the avi and subtitle files the same, and using something like VLC or MPC to play them back. Either of these will pick up the subtitles and display them. It does mean you have to keep the two together though.

The .divx format (and extension of the .avi container format) allows for embedding subtitles into the file. Some software and standalone players will pick these up and play them.

Otherwise it means re-encoding with the subtitles permanently on the screen.

Thanks, can you describe how to embed the subtitles and re-encode?

https://forum.videohelp.com/user-guides-f15-50.html is one method. There are probably several others.

You can use Subtitle Workshop to do this.
    1. First determine the exact play-time of part-1 in hh:mms.msec.
    2. Now start Subtitle Workshop and select Tools > Join Subtitles.
    3. Join both parts, but DO NOT tick Recalculate Timevalues.
    4. Now search the file to the point where the timecode jumps back to (nearly) zero.
    5. Select all subs from there to the end and select: Edit > Timings > Set delay and fill the value from step 1.
    6. Save under a new name.
