  1. Hello everybody
I am a bit confused with the camcorders. I don't know so much about them, had one last year using dv tapes but converting the movie takes some time. I would realy be interested to know which of the camcorders offer the best quality, not the most expensive ones like 1000-2000 EUR, the ones which are more affordable...
What's your option : DVD camcorder, DV camcorder or HDD?

    Thanks for you help.

  2. I've had one of each (DV-tape, HDD, and DVD) and I prefer my tape-driven Elura 100 by a landslide. It may be time-consuming to transfer from tape and edit, but the quality can't be matched by the other medias. I think I paid under $300US for it while the other two were 2-3x as much.

DV all the way. Overall the quality is very poor on DVD, add to that it's MPEG. Editable but not nearly as suitable as DV.

Haven't experimented with any HDD yet but apparently from some of the posts I've read it's not very easy and the software supporting it is sparse. Be a while before I seriously consider buying until the software comes up to speed and everything settles down.

P.S. The following helped me too. I ended up with a PV-GS320, and I really like it. Oh, and yes... miniDV all the way....

DV without a doubt. If anyone were to come up with an HDD camcorder that recorded in DVavi to the hard disc, you'd have the best of both worlds, best quality and (virtually) unlimited recording time. Think about it, at 13GB per hour, it would be no problem to have 20 hours record time.

DV for serious use, DVD and mpeg HDD for the point and shoot consumer.

I read on http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ that Hitachi might send on the market a camcorder with blu-ray recorder at the end of this year
