    Hi everyone.

I'm looking for a standalone player, but I have a feeling the one I want doesn't really exist.

What I'm looking for is: a HDD Recorder with USB and Ethernet ports, that also plays DivX files. Ideally, with a DVD Recorder built in as well

So: I'd be able to set it to record programmes, which it would record to its internal hard drive. These files, I'd then be able to access from my PC on the network (since it's networked). If I recorded a programme, then, I'd be able to go to my PC, and it access it there. I'd also be able to add or remove files to device via a pen drive or USB hard drive.

At the same time, I'd like the player to be able to access and play DivX or other video files stored on either my PC or a NAS on the network.

This, to me, seems amazing - the Holy Grail of Entertainment Systems, almost. It also seems quite impossible.

Yet, I've been looking at the KiSS VR-558: http://www.amazon.co.uk/KiSS-VR-558-recorder-multimedia-receiver/dp/B000CS4LVE which seems to offer this possibility.

The TVIX http://www.tvix.co.kr/Eng/products/5100sh.aspx also seems to offer a close match (without a DVD recorder, which isn't realy essential - although it would be nice to have a player there, to save another device under the TV) but you do need to buy and install a separate TV encoder: http://www.tvix.co.kr/Eng/products/5100sh.aspx.

The thing is, while the KiSS seems perfect, I've read bad reviews about it... it also seems a bit cheap for what it's offering.

I was wondering, does anyone know of a device like the one I'm suggesting, or can make any other reccomendations?

  2. My HTPC does this without the restrictions a STB places on you.

Flamin heck ... I almost set myself on fire just looking at that kiss units price ... holly crapola ... and thats in pounds to boot .

The tvix came in at 316 pounds ... but I like the network feature ... but the tuner is an option , which adds cost ... crumbs ... thats pricey as well .

Be better of biulding a dedicated htpc for those prices .

Lets see what my unit would have been in pounds then ... 181 ... but you have to add some import duties and applicable taxs ... but that would be a hell of a lot cheaper .

I got a wintal dvdrx250 for $400.00 with 3 years warrantee ... dose everything else , just dosent have network ... but then you just use dvd+r rw anyway .
