lI am currently using a Leadtek dtv1000t digital tv tuner card here in Australia .
Running the WInfast PVR2 software
The Standard Definition picture resolution specification is:
- 576 lines x 720 active pixels @ 50Hz interlaced (576i).
Yet whenever I capture Standard Definition tv It always captures at the incorrect resolution of 1024x576.
I read somewhere it was due to the poor implementation of the drivers and Brooktree chipset.
Just wondering if there is a way of captureing sd digital tv in the correct resolution of 720x576 or am I stuck capturing oversized files @ 1024x576? As there doesn't seem to be any options in the software to specify the capture rate or resolution.

I assume you mean Standard definition digital broadcast. All digital broadcasts in Australia - SD or HD - are 16:9. All SD broadcasts are 720 x 576 interlaced. HD can be anything from 576p up to 1080i. While the actual image resolution of SD is 720 x 576, this displays as effectively 1024 x 576 because of pixel aspect ratios. If you are just grabbing either the transport stream or program stream (I just grab the program streams as there is little extra information in Australian transport streams) then the mpeg-2 video contained within is 720 x 576 16:9 video. It is DVD compliant, and can be authored without change to DVD.
16:9 DVD is encoded in exactly the same manner.
My questions to you would be
1. How are you recording the video ?
2. What is telling you that it is 1024 x 576 ?
FWIW, I use a Winfast DTV2000H for my digital grabbing.Read my blog here.

Ok I just noticed when i play the video in
Windows Media Player reports 1024x576
When I play it in Winamp I get
Video Size: 720x576 (15000kbps)
Audio. 48000hz, 16bps, 2ch (256kbps)
Bitrate: -34880kbps
Both Windows Media Player and Winamp are using the InterVideo Audio and Video Codecs for playback. The codecs must come bundled with one of the applications. But I definately don't have windvd installed. I use Powerdvd -
Windows media Player isn't a very good judge of anything, so don't trust what it tells you. Open the mpeg file with the latest g-spot to see what you really have. However it looks like a normal, standard definition broadcast to me.
