I put a video on a blank DVD-R using Nero 7 Ultra Edition. Now it put everything on there fine but when I play the DVD in a DVD player the sound plays before the video so like when someone is saying something the video (picture) is actually behind.
Is there any way I could fix? Any help would be grately appreciated. Thanks and regards.

I put a video
Disc type used ?
You might want mediainfo or gspot to get a look at the internals of the file involved .
If it was already a compliant mpeg2 , and it played fine before , now not , after , then nero screwed up , and has a record for doing it .
Might have been it re-encoded the file as well , which should have been disabled to start with in the settings .

If it was dvd spec files before , then it could be the audio in the vobs needs to be shifted back slightly .
Your best bet would be to transfer the dvd back to hard drive , run vobedit , load vob 1 of title , hit demux , hit all three options in lower boxed area , and output to a new folder .
Then use ifoedit to reauthor from source files , but you would need to include the value for audio in order for it to be shifted into the correct position (- numbers pull audio forward) . Only you need to judge by how much , cant help you with that from here .
There's a bit more to ifoedit that needs you to fix up a few things after , but once done , and audio placement is correct , it would be safe to burn .

On the off chance its your dvd player thats screwing up , shove the disc in , and while its playing , turn the unit off at the power point . Upon powering backup , eject disc asap before it can be played .
I had this happen once ... very funny for the first 5 minutes , but then the joke had gone far enough . Took me about 5 minutes to fix the thing when I finally decide to do the above to see what would happen . Its been gold ever since .

Try sticking with dvd-r , verbatims , burn at half max media rated speed , or 4x , and dont try fitting more than 4.3gig to an dvd-r sl (single layer) . -
hmmmm don't really know if I understand all of that.
All I know is that I downloaded something that was a .avi file. It worked fine by itself, it just messed up when I played it in the dvd player and it definately isn't my dvd player because I tried it on 3 dvd players. -
If it was a AVI like a Divx or Xvid, check for MP3 VBR audio. That will cause problems with most MPEG encoders. If you open the AVI in Gspot, look to the lower left and see if the green 'VBR' box is lit. If so, that may be part of your problem. I'm assuming you used Nero to convert the AVI to MPEG? VBR audio should be acceptable for a Divx player.

Don't use NeroVision to convert .avi files. It is notorious for audio sync issues if the avi files is even a little bit odd.

So what program would be best to put this video onto a dvd? I would prefer a free program but at the same time I would want something that is very easy to use such as Nero, so if you can't find a free one that is easy to use I don't mind you reccommending one I have to pay for.
By the way, thanks for all your help on this guys, it's good to know that there are people willing to help out there. -
ConvertXtoDVD is generally better than NeroVision, but isn't free.
DVD Flick and FAVC are both free and very good.Read my blog here.

Give super a crack at it .
Take a look at the specs that gspot reports .
In super :
Select mpeg2 as video output
Select audio out as ac3 , 2 channel , 48khz
Now select a video scale , suitable for dvd , close to that shown in gspot (refer to "what is > dvd) , up left on website .
Select video bitrate above what is reported back in gspot .
Select video aspect ... gspot tells you this value .
Set video frame rate required .
If error , switch from default encoder to other , using the same settings .
It may take some time to complete .
----
Demux using either batchdemux / vobedit / mpeg streamclip
----
Dvdauthorgui can complete the authoring stage .
----
Imgburn can finish it off to dvd ... but play it back before you start burning process to check for issues first .
