  1. I have just captured a movie from a dvd player using dazzle SVCD template in DVC 2 and the movie was absolutely awful. Anyone have any suggestion of how to improve capture quality. I will also add that the DVD is hook up to my computer using a composite cable instead of an S-video cable.

    Dell computer
    800 Mhz
    128 Ram
    32 Meg M64 video card
Dazzle DVC 2 pci capture card

    hdog,

thought I'd put my 2cents in before others do.

Don't go out and get a s-video cable to try for better quality. You'd be waisting your time! Especially since you ARE capturing from a dvd source already. quality is very good in both rca an svideo cords. You'd be wishing waistfully. I tried the dvc2 and several weeks and was NOT satisfied with it. In short, I ended up keeping my wintv pvr over it (usb)
but the pvr (usb) has its own prob.
The only thing i can suggest is raising the birtrate or something. hang in their. someone will help guide further here! But as for your captures via RCA - no need to change to s-video. And, 4get the hogwash about the 3 or 4 seporate chroma channels for better picture quality crap/nonsense. ...hogwash. It's sooooo miniscule, you even notice ANYTHING from your dvd source!!!!! But, heck, it's your dvc2!
Above is based on my experience.

  3. Dont know why you'd be capturing a DVD through a capture device (direct ripping will always give you a better quality)

I've never had problems with the Dazzle and have made 20+ dvd's from it and 15 svcd's. What are your "exact" settings, what version of moviestar are you using? etc etc.

  4. The reasons why am using the DVC2 instead of ripping the dvd and converting to mpeg 1 or 2 is the time involved. Using the DVC2 you can capture mpeg1 or 2 in real time which is usually an hour and half or two hours. Try to rip and then converting to mpeg takes far longer usually 6 or 7 hours.
