Right, thank you very much. But just now I discovered a very strange thing. There is no soundtrack in the .mpeg files we rendered! How to solve it?

there isn't supposed to be. in vegas you normally render the audio separately from the video and then send both the video and audio to an authoring program to make them into a DVD. if you want audio included then you have to specify it in custom/audio when you select the video and render as.

Also when I authored your .mpg file onto a DVD via Sony DVD Architect, there is absolutely no sound coming out, either. Weird, what's the problem? It supposed to be working with its own authoring software....or the soundtrack is lost in the .mpg file already.

Oh, didn't notice you've replied. So just as you mentioned, how could I "tell" Vegas to include the Audio before it starts Rendering? Pardon me, I am totally new to this software. Cheers. I can't find the custom/audio stuff...where is it, at which step please?

select your video. file render as. mainconcept mpeg-2. template - the pal widescreen one. to the right now click custom. down at the bottom of the custom window you can select what you want. audio. put a tick in the include audio stream. don't change anything if you don't know what it is or you can royally screw it up. the only type of audio mainconcept will produce is mpeg-1 layer 2. if you want some other type you will have to "render as" the audio separately.

    with mpeg-1 audio

Got it, mate! Successfully rendered an .mpg file with the original sound track, that's good. Finally I got it work in some way.

It looks like Vegas 7.0e was intended for some serious A/V editing work. At least some default settings look sort like that. But thank you very much for your constant help to get me started with it.

You guys know great about video editing, I got a long way to catch up in Vegas.

Also thanks a bunch for your re-rendered .mpg file with audio track compiled. You're so kind hearted, man. Cheers

So, yesterday I received my Sony HDR-SR7 (yay!) and I recorded in widescreen 16:9 SD today... and I have the same problem when I'm trying to render my video in true widescreen. I'd like to know how I can render true 16:9 avi files in Vegas 7.0. (I want to compress this file in Virtualdub afterwards)

    Thanks in advance guys!

Ok... perhaps I should provide more details.

It looks like VLC doesn't read the 16:9 DAR flag of the exported file (I know it's there after opening it in Gspot) and it displays the video in it's SAR (= 5:4). The weird thing however, is when opening the original widescreen mpeg-2 or the exported DV avi file in Gspot, it gives me a PAR of 1,422 (~10:7), while the PAR for PAL DV Widescreen is 1,4568. That's weird, isn't it? This is also the case for my captured 4:3 DV avi files. Gspot tells me the PAR is 1,067 (16:15), while the PAR for PAL DV is 1,0926. Could this be the reason why VLC doesn't play back my exported DV avi files in their DAR? If so, how to fix it?

If that's not the reason, what could be? any thoughts? I tried my best to explain this very carefully and I've been close to losing my mind on the matter...

    Thanks,
    Martijn
