Hi guys well my brother gave me two dvds a couple of days ago of an event they taped on video cam. However the lighting isnt too good and neither as the colours so what i want to do is the following

Take the 2dvd 5s and convert them to a single DVD 9
Remaster the colour and contrast levels and remove any blocky artifcats
Boost the sound and also add a slight echo to it
Convert the 2.1 audio track and change to 5.1
and finally put a decent main menu system to bring the whole thing together

but im not to sure how i do this all. so this where you guys come in. i need you help and advice on tools and techniques i will need to accomplish it.I can pop screen shots showing how the video currently looks like if it helps.. Anyways i leave it with you guys

If you're going to go through all that trouble you'd be better off having him send you the original files. Assuming it's from a DV-AVI cam you can get about 18 minutes or so on a single sided DVD.

Virtualdub has filters than do all that you are after, however it will come at a cost. DeBlocking will soften the image. Upping the brightness will most likely increase noise, which will in turn require a high bitrate when re-encoding or you risk putting back worse blocking. In creasing the audio to 5.1 will most likely mean using a higher bitrate when re-encoding, which will eat into your video bitrate allocation.

None of these are end of the world items, but things you should carefully consider.
