I have a Dell Latitude D520 with specifications that it can burn dvds with any type of dvd ware such as DVD +/- R. I also have all the burning software such as Nero. However, when I put in Memorex DVD + R in the DVD rom drive it didn't load at all. The Nero, Divx, and even windows media displayed that there wasn't a disk in the drive at all. I really want to burn a dvd. Another weird thing was when I put a burnt dvd, specifically TDK DVD-R it played the video on the disk. I want to know what's the problem...is it the drive or the disk, because I want to burn a dvd. Please help.

    Welcome chrang

What model is the burner ?

Mines the D610 with external lg unit , and internal liteon dvdrom / cd burner combo .

Sounds like you only have the dvdrom drive , and not a dvd burner .

MEMOREX is crappy dvd media. I'd suggest you use another brand of dvd media like VERBATIM. Are you sure your laptop can burn dvd media? You mentioned putting in a disc in the dvdrom drive. I never knew a laptop can have 1 dvd burner and 1 dvdrom.

budz , these dell latitudes , D series can do it all .

Duel batts (7 hour runtime on larger capacity batteries) .

Or while on mains power , you can remove the battery and install another drive , such as burner , floppy , hard drive .

Just getting the caddy for the left is difficult to get a hold of .

    ----

Now where that tv out post go to ... my 7pin minidins arrived ... and I have now COLOUR output from the laptop .

Bought 3 and got a 4th for free ... more cables than I know what to do with ... except not to trip over them .

bjs likely has it correct: It looks like you have the combo drive - not a burner.

Thanks! Is there any way to burn on this laptop then? Do I have to buy a dvd burner? If so, which kind?

I found a dvd burner (8X) for my 600M on ebay.

I had to do alot of research, because the drive originally sold with that model was +R only, and 4X. I found the newer models' drive would work.

I started on Dell's accessories for my laptop's pages, and worked from there.

    Good Luck

Well , its usb1 port , not usb2 , best get an internal for it , and only burn to dvd while its connected to mains power .

I only gave my external one dvd test so far , and it choked before it got started , but I'll give it another crack tomorrow when I get back from the farm .

Well I though ... get off my butt and go get it from the other room now , and give it another go .

Imgburn at 1x succesfully completed a dvd burn to my external lg unit on usb1 .

Makes you wonder what all those others are saying that usb1 is too slow ... just watch the buffer go from full to 9% a heck of a lot ... dont do anything while that process is running .

Maybe my unit is a freak ... the D610 that is ... who really knows .

256mb ram / 1200mh cpu / 20gig hd / 32mb ati ... and now ... 13 tv out cables (the real dell part that works)

I see them in ebay , I grab the whole lot .
