New Guy! Have a problem - Subtitles are too fast.

Hello all.

I've been a lurker on videohelp.com for quite a while now for some of my questions.
But now I have registered to ask you guys and women about a problem that I'm facing.

I recently downloaded a foreign film that came in 4 files which are
two .avi's and 2 corresponding .srt english subtitles.

The first .avi and it's sub .srt file works perfectly fine but the other set does not.

The subtitles for the second .avi moves along faster than the movie itself and totally throws
off the whole movie experience. I've been searching for an answer and all the topics that
I find, I try to read and I just get confused on trying to figure it out.

If someone could please help me out with what program I should use and how could I
possibly slow down the subtitles to be in sync with the movie, it would really be greatly appreciated.

2.3 Adjust subtitles
2.2.1 Method 1: simple adjust, first and last dialogs
2.2.2 Method 2: synchronize using two points
2.2.3 Method 3: adjust to synchronized subtitles
2.2.4 Method 4: advanced subtitle adjust

Method 1 will probably solve your problem.

AlanHK has pointed you to the appropriate tool to perform an FPS conversion , which should correct the issue .

However , if it still suffers a sync issue after , the better tool is visualsubsync for more accurate adjustment in a more friendlier , visual format , where you can lock a section to loop in playback for very acurate timing .

You may need vobsub installed for most tools to display loaded subtitle's .

Just finished!

I fixed the timing and even added some missing lines and also
corrected some of the grammar. Thanks for referring me to that
Subtitle Workshop program, it worked beautifully!

One more question though...

If I wanted to join the .avi and the .srt files together in one file,
what program should I use that wouldn't kill the quality of the movie?

I remember reading somewhere that AutoGK will work,
but I fear the quality will turn out bad if I do use this.

If your subtitles are from a DVD rip, then Method 1 would be the one that I use (if I was deaf). If fact, it is the one that I prefer now, not being completely deaf (yet).

A lot of my subtitle problems stem from programs not handling the DROP FRAME TIMING properly. This usually results in a substream that is about a minute out of sync after an hour (behind true audio).
