suddenly can't play mpeg files!!!!

can someone please help.
All of a sudden I can't play any mpeg files (that use to play) on wmp11, image mixer(for my Sony cam), etc. NeoDVD will show vireo but there's no sound.
The files will play on other computers.
Please help!!

Try VLC media player. If it works, then your MPEG-2 codec is probably corrupted. Or drop one of the files into Gspot 2.70 and it should tell you if you have the proper codecs installed. You can use Stinkys MPEG2 Codec if you need to replace it. Or use Codec Sniper to remove a corrupted one. If it's just the audio that doesn't work, then Gspot is still a good place to start.

I can play the files on VLC, but gspot says the codecs are OK.
Nothing plays on wmp, quicktime, image mixer but I do get picture, no audio on neo.
In the folders I can't view thumbnails if that helps.
I've downloaded Codec Sniper, but it doesn't seem to function.
Any further ideas?

ps. I replaced the mpeg2 codecs with stinkys, but to no effect.
