i recently bought This laptop and the battery only lasts about 1 hour and 40ish minutes at full charge, with medium battery settings in vista.
first, i was wondering is this low or average for a laptop battery?
and second, i was wondering where i could get a battery for this laptop that had longer useage hours on it. i looked around and all i could really find were replacements for the same thing.
thanks in advance

Yeah thats about average. You can tweak the batery saving settings a little more but it still won't give you much more time. You would think in this day and age that they would be making batteries that lasted 8 hours or more. In electronic's battery technology still lags years behind the hardware technology.

It sounds about right. About the last 3 generations of laptops we've been using at work have all had a battery life of about one and a half hours. Battery technology is getting better (NiCd > NiMH > LiOn) but the laptops have got power hungrier. It would be interesting to see how long an older spec laptop would run from a modern LiOn battery.
You could get more work from it by changing to Win XP. The spec shows it as having 512MB of RAM but you say it is running Vista. That's a recipe for lots of hanging around waiting for it to do something surely? -
With modern laptops, you need one of these:
Capacity 120WH
10AH
Weight 4.05kg
9lbs
But it's only 12V (For video cameras) and it's a little heavy.
But I believe they do make external battery packs just for laptops. That might be one way to extend the use time. Or if your battery pack is easily removable, you might pick up a second one. -
Older generation dell laptops had a choice of 2 batteries .
I still like my old D610 latitude ... which can have two batteries installed (default is left bay) ... but getting a hold of the right bay module is difficult .
So , with two after market batteries , that gives me well over 7 hours runtime .
The default had a runtime range of just short of 2 hours .
The after market runtime range was short of 4 hours .
We have a company called battery world in au , which can repack the original battery to the higher capacity .
You may have something similar in your area .
From my repacks , it ran at around the cost of the original to replace from dell . -

If you are adventurous, I haven't tried this yet myself but will soon.Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.) -
The battery that came with my Toshiba was a 4 cell and it lasted ~1.5hrs,I bought an 8 cell and it will last over 3hrs.

also realize it depends on what you're doing.. if the HDD or optical drives are spinning, it will drain the battery much quicker than simply browsing the internet

I am just an imbecil
