Here is what I want to do, I want to rip my dvd movies to my computer, edit out the curse words and/or nudity, and then burn them back to a dvd with all the menus intact. How can I do this? Is there a way to add my voice saying another word instead of the curse word. Thanks.

You can do it, but it will take some work. You need a video editing program fist of all. Do you have one? I use Womble Video Wizard. With this program you will be able to mute the original audio in spots and insert your new audio that you've recorded. The images can be edited too. You could insert little censor tabs or the like over the naughty bits or just cut that part of the video altogether. All this won't be a quick process, but it can be done. If you're not up with editing videos, you'll have a bit of study to do, but it's not hard once you know how. Good luck.

Or you can just tell the kids to cover their eyes or ears when something offensive comes on.
-
Or just not let them be allowed to see those flix for a few more years...
Or watch it with them and explain why those things are "inappropriate" at their age (when those items appear onscreen)...
...or is this for you?

Can't do it legally in the US. The ClearPlay option is really what you're looking for. And proabably WAYYYY cheaper in the end. Not to mention quicker...
Have a good one,

The bit I don't get is that pretty much any film that has language unsuitable for "family viewing" (whatever that means) also contains concepts that are therefore equally unsuitable and will require similar explanation. AFAIAC, if a movie needs to be edited for my kids to watch it, they aren't ready to watch it yet. QED. As for adults, again, if you are so offended by a little language or violence (or, gasp, sex, giggle), then you probably shouldn't bother with the rest of the film. Image the clear play version of Die Hard. Running time of 7 minutes, 6.5 of them are the credits.

Doesn't the DVD of Cabin Fever actually have a "family" version that runs a few minutes or so?
-
I got about 10 minutes into Cabin Fever then ejected the disc and put my drink on it. I would rank it as one of the worst (and most over-rated) films of that decade. As someone who grew up watch the films he was supposedly paying homage too, Eli Roth had little to no idea about what made them tick. Hostel was a much better film. IMO.

Well, first thing, it is not for my kids, it is for me and my wife. We are Christians and do not like to hear the word God D@!#. It is very offensive to me and my wife. With so many movies using it freely, I would like to edit it out. For instance, Norbit, this movie has that word in it like 25-30 times. I would like to watch the movie, but not hear the language. I have Vegas Video 7. I have a TV Guardian which takes out language, but when it does, there is silence. By inserting my words into the movie, the movie will be more easy to follow. Thank you for your replies.

Vegas is a great editor, but it is not designed to work natively with mpeg video. Any cuts you make to the video will require a complete re-encoding.
I would suggest the following method.
Load the video into Vegas and make whatever alterations you want to the audio only. Vegas has great audio capabilities, and adding dialogue or replacing dialogue should be straight forward. When you are done, output as AC3.
Load the video into Womble Mpeg Wizard, a dedicated mpeg editor. Replace the original audio with your new edit, and use Womble to make any changes to the video that you need. Womble can also do basic fades etc to smooth out things. The main advantage to using Womble is that it will only re-encode where it has too, so most of your video will remain in it's original state. if you get the DVD version you can author your disc with your new version.
Which ever method you choose however, you are in for a fair amount of work. Except for Norbit. Just remove everything between the studio logo and the end credits, and you should be set to go.Read my blog here.
