Hi,
Can you tell me if a tabletop type dvd recorder (not the typical dvd burner for a computer) can be used for two type functions? And if so, what components I need for each scenario.
I am trying to do two type things with one recorder (don't have to be attached at the same time), if possible...
1) copy dvr (Scientific Atlanta, model Explorer 8300HD) saved shows to a dvd on a dvd recorder
2) copy vhs-c tape analog movies to a windows xp pent 3 home comp (non-firewire).
--OR-- vice versa, can a computer dvd burner be attached to a dvr to do same 2 things above.
Thanks!
Mike

1) yes, just use the DVR audio/video output connected to the DVD recorder audio/video input (works fine for SD material)
2) You will need a vhs-c unit to playback the tapes and a video capture card on the pc to capture the video/audio.Google is your Friend -

You also asked this "Can tabletop dvd recorder attach to a computer"
Answer is yes. There are some that can they are very expensive. $500+ -
Thanks handyguy. I was hoping that i could use a $150 type dvd recorder, maybe with an inexpensive add'l hdw addon to also use it off the computer, but sounds like, I'd really need to consider a more expensive dvd recorder, which I'll probably wait on at this point (the more exp one).

SO what is the second part of the question exactly? Do you want to record the video and audio from your computer to your standalone dvd recorder? Is that it?
Then all you need is to have a video card with a video output and a soundcard with a headphone to rca splitter cable. This way you can hook up the video and audio from the computer to the dvd recorder.
Or your other option is to use any of the various screen capture programs out there. FRAPS is one that is recommended often here.
Just a note about the dvr to dvd recorder option - it may have macrovision or copy protection if its a premium channel. You would have to look into acquiring a blocker device to put in between your dvr and dvd recorder.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Thank you Yoda. I am looking into the video card and sound card.
