    What is Microsoft doing with all these updates? Are they improving XP? Are they fixing bugs? Are they taking information from my PC? When I first opted for automatic updates, Microsoft asked if I trusted them. I really don't. Again, what could they possibly be doing with all these freaking updates?

    Fixing secrity hole mainly.

    If you want to know in detail open IE, Tools tab, windows Update and choose custom, then you can click and expand any update available and find out what it is for.
