    My guess is the appropriate codec. How well they play is up to the processor, RAM, bus speed...

    Looking at your CPU (Athlon 2000), I'd say you're (barely) in the ballpark but I'd definitely beef up your RAM to 1GB.

    I can play x264 very fine even in full screen. Just asking cause I wanted to put that in my site FAQ

    Same requirements as any other AVC. Depends as said on framesize, also what decoder you are using and whether you are using hardware acceleration or not. For instance CoreAVC uses less resources than ffdshow and is multithreaded, but then if you have an 86/500 video card you should be able to offload all the decoding to the card. Same goes for AMD's latest cards. Lastly it also depends on what encoding profile. High Profile will require more power to decode than Base Profile.
