Hey guys, just a quick question please.......
I burn home movies of my sons growing up and send them to relatives all over the place. I use a Hitachi cam that burns onto a mini DVD ram disc, upload it to my computer and then use the bundled software (MyDVD4) to create menus etc.
My question is I now have a dual layer DVD burner and I would love to be able to put more footage onto a disc but my software only lets my put on 4.7G per disc. I know I need to use a dual layer disc but what software would allow me to put 8+ Gigabytes onto a disc and still be simple enough to use to make menus etc.
I am only a newbie so if somebody could offer a suggestion that doesn't require changing the uploaded footage to another format I would appreciate it as the more steps I need to do, the more chances I could ruin something!
Thanks a lot in advance.....
Mark

Advice: Use short programs to multiple 4.35GB DVD-5 discs that are cheap and work. Dual layer DVD-9 adds multiple problems at your end as author and at the user end. You want the disc to work at their end.

Some software will check the blank disc and give you options accordingly. So if you insert a DL disc, perhaps it will allow DL projects. Worth a try. If the software was bundled with the drive, it really should allow you to use all its features.
MYDVD is up to version 9 now, maybe you can upgrade? -
The program MyDVD4 was bundled with the camera, not the drive. I agree having 300 DVD5's that work with the relatives is good, but I thought 100 DVD9's would be better......
I am only asking these questions because I am testing the water. If it is too difficult, or it causes too many problems then I would not even try. I just thought it was a common question and there was an obvious (ex-newbie) fix.
Otherwise, why would they build DL burners? Sorry if these questions are dumb, i'm just trying to learn and understand things a bit better.
After reading hours of posts regarding DVD authoring all I can say is if I knew one tenth of the information offered on this board I would be extatic. Keep up the good work guys.
Any other help would be appreciated.

Usually you get an OEM copy of Nero or an equivalent with your burner that allows you to use the capacity of the drive.Originally Posted by MadMaz
But otherwise, see https://www.videohelp.com/author. You can find many alternatives there, you can do it with completely free software.
All in one solutions are rarely the best.
You can use a different tool to: edit, filter, convert, author and burn.
But you have to invest the time to make it work. -
Try DL (DVD-9) and see if they work for you. I've had varable results. A bad batch of DL media can be frustrating and expensive. Some users report problems playing DL media.
