  1. I'm not sure if this is a DVD recorder issue, a copy to hard drive process, and/or burning software issue.
I use a Sony GX7 recorder and have been happy with the results. However, sometimes when I try to back up a DVD that has been created with the GX7, Nero tells me the DVD is non-complaint. And its not just Nero. I'll use TDA. And TDA tells me its non-complaint.
The DVD plays fine, and yet can't easily be copied.
Heres the steps I use to make a copy:

    1. Copy files to PC hard drive. No shrink or fab, just drag and drop.
    2. I use Nero, TDA, or Womble(also nero) to burn

Most of the time I have no problems. Suggestions please?

Are the files you copy from the disc in video_ts and audio_ts folders? If not, then it isn't dvd compliant.

Many recorders have 2 recording modes. One meets DVD specs, the other doesn't. The names escape me at the moment.

The files are from the video_ts folder. My recorder does not create a audio_ts folder.

  6. Just curious when you put this disc in your pc, if you just highlight the drive it is in, it will tell you the format of the dvd. Dees it day UDF or does it give you "cdfs". I have come across quite a number of copied dvds with a cdfs system and not the proper UDH. On a few occasions I could not play those disc or pretty much anything else with them.

I would go ahead and open it with DVDShrink for starters. DVDShrink had a "fix" in it's history that enabled it to open discs created on DVD recorders. No need to shrink...just see if it works with the material and if it does...have it create another folder or image.

I would also run the entire DVD (VIDEO_TS folder) through FixVTS after you drag and drop it....just "fix in place"(since you have the material on a DVDR)...then try to work with it. FixVTS was originally designed with DVD Recorder discs in mind.
