I am using a PC for playing back 50Hz Interlaced SD MPEG2 files (PAL)
The graphics adaptor is a Intel 82945G
One output goes to a VGA PC monitor for control
The TV output goes over RGB to a TV in 50Hz Interlaced PAL format
The deinterlacer in the TV is much better then anything I have seen running on my PC (motion compensated deinterlacing) and I would like to eliminate all deinterlacing in the PC so I can have a TV output frame locked with the video decoder displaying the fields in the right order so the TV deinterlacer can do its magic.
However. I can not get it to work.
I know that when using a dedicated HW media player I can get much better video playback then anything I can get from the PC TV Output. Sharpness and color are OK from the PC but motion portrail is terrible
I have the following MPEG 2 video decoders installed
MPV decoder filer
Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder
Sonic MPEG Video Decoder
PP MPEG video decoder
Cyberlink Video MPEG Decoder
NVIDIA DualTV Transcoder
Questions:
Any recommendation on the decoder I should focus on?
Should I use any specific deinterlacer setting in the decoder (disabled?)?
How to ensure the MPEG decoder and the field displaying are locked?
Any way to quickly test and compare the decoders?
Any help is welcome

Try to use VLC with "x" or "mean" deinterlace, and see how that looks, before deciding your television is better.
VLC will also output interlaced video as-is.
I think you're just using the wrong output player.
Another factor is the output card, which may or may not actually support interlaced output.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
