  1. Well I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I did look around for answers first but couldn't find any.

I'm ready to purchase a component DVD player for my TV(large screen/hidef). I definitely want progressive scan but would also like to play some of the downloaded videos that I burn to CD on my computer on this DVD player (so I can view them on my TV - ie SVCD, or AVI's etc).

I have checked the DVD players section and will try to narrow my choices (I"m open to any recommendations too.)

Is this possible? (getting DL'd mpegs, avi's etc to play on DVD player)
Should I be looking for a particular feature on the DVD?
Do I have to burn them/convert them to a certain format?

The video stuff is all new to me. Thanks for any and all help.

Before you buy, check the DVD Player Compatibility List. It will tell you what formats your DVD can play. As for DL'd avi(DiVX) nothing will play that except a computer, unless you convert it into a (S)(X)VCD.

All the tools and guides/tutorials you will need are in the How To and Tools sections of this site.

  3. Thanks ENaMEL. That sure helps. Just to clarify...if the DVD I purchase has media supports as Video CD (VCD) then it should play my downloads? (Question: also SVCD???)

When I burn LOTR's it has 4 folders on the CD. One of them is the MPEG2 folder which has the *.mpg file in it. Will this play on this CD player?
Or do I still have to convert it somehow?
