Hi.I am fairly new to all this but I have started using dvd shrink to back up movies. The problem I am getting is when the ripping gets to the end of the movie it returns to the start of the movie and goes through the whole 30 to 40 minute process again. Thus doing the whole process twice. Please help thanks Shane.

Use DVDFAB DECRYPTER to rip to your hard drive first. Then use DVDSHRINK to transcode. DVDSHRINK is no longer updated, you'll need to use DVDFAB DECRYPTER to bypass the copy encrytions. Read the GUIDES to your left on how to backup your dvd movies.<<<<<<<<

Budz is correct...however what you are experiencing is Deep Analysis followed by
the actual transcoding. Deep Analysis is an extra quality setting that can be turned
    off.

You likely have "Perform Deep Analysis Before Backup To Improve Quality" checked.

    It is default.

You can uncheck it, which will eliminate this step - but the final quality of the video will reflect
    this, as it will suffer.

If it's only speed that you're interested in, there are other transcoders that are faster; just not
many that produce the results that Shrink will for free - at 75% or above quality.

BTW: This "double process" has not one thing to do with how you rip. If you're using Shrink to rip, it'll come up and bite you soon enough - Shrink was never a ripper.

Thanks so much for the very quick and clear feedback, much appreciated.I am also using dvd decrypter to rip first and final write onto disk and dvd fab decrypter to rip also. One more thing, with dvd fab, the files seem to have there own locked in folder location,is there a suggestion on this. Thanks again Shane.

Just change the target folder in DVDFabDecrypter.

Maybe I should have said: "Shrink was never a ripper of ENCRYPTED DISCS"

Anyway - I've not chosen to use Shrink as a primary ripper; although it will function as a disc reader - while running a greater risk of errors.

Actually it was, until they ceased development of shrink and they created new copy protections that shrink could not handle, the same as DVD Decrypter, just because it can't handle current copy protections now does not mean it didn't at one time.

Wow you are really batting 1000 aren't you? WRONG AGAIN. The almost endless list of guides for DVDShrink should have tipped you off. DVDShrink can STILL do things that that other apps cannot(regardless whether they are free or not)....like being able to preview anything and everything on the disc, opening up multiple discs or images or VIDEO_TS folders and mixing and matching from all of them into a single disc....and it is the only app that can put NTSC and PAL material on the same disc(provided there is no menu). Out of spec you say(NTSC and PAL on one disc)?....so what. I've made quite a few of these and they work perfectly on any machine I've tried...and they work on my folk's machine in America too. I'd love to see anyone put up a list of "errors" that DVDShrink creates that outweighs my list above.
