    Hey, guys.

    A quick rundown.

Goal: To rip clips from dvds, edit with Premiere Pro 1.5

    So Far:

    1) I have used DVD Shrink to put the dvd files on my hd.

    2) I have a new install of VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2. I can bring in the dvd files and save scenes to AVI, but when I go to import the AVI clips into Premiere Pro 1.5, the import status bar never starts...it just hangs there and never imports.

Now, I have tried saving my scenes to AVI in VDM by:

    1. full processing, uncompressed RGB

or several different compression settings, including

    2. Huffyuv v2.1.1

    3. Cinepack

    4. Panasonic DV Codec

I have tried to keep the settings as clean as possible, with full processing. I haven't added any other compression codecs.

The result is the same each time: the avi file plays fine, but just won't import into Premiere. The import progress bar shows, but nothing ever happens. No error messages come up.

Is there a pretty set compression setting/codec that favors dvd files to avi for importing into Premiere? I tried to keep it simple and use the Panasonic DV Codec, which many tutorials have recommended, but that proved fruitless.

Perhaps DivX 5.0.5 Codec? I think I tried that option. I think I tried them all. I will go back and make sure.

I can use Total Video Converter and convert the avi files into mpegs, which do import right into Premiere, but the quality definitely suffers.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious, but I thought I would ask around before I started getting crazy downloading/installing each and every compression codec.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give! *S*

    Rip with DVD Shrink
Extract the video and audio content using VOB2MPG
Import MPG files into Premiere Pro 1.5

    Or

    Rip with DVD Shrink
Load into Virtualdubmpeg2, save to AVI using Panasonic DV Codec
Load avi into Premiere Pro 1.5
