I have an avi video file thats 896mb w/mp3 audio its about 1.5 hours. I'm using Sony Vegas 7.0 to do a minor edit(cut 1 small scene & add a title overlay) after I do those things & save the file comes out a whole lot bigger, is there anyway to stay close to the same size?

You must be reencoding to a different format. I assume its something like a divx file but you don't eloborate in the details. You should choose the output to match the input format and keep the bitrate the same then your file size won't change much.

use gspot or avicodec to find out what the avi file really is. Then in order to maintain roughly the same size output it to the same format.

Though it depends - what is your destination? If you are trying to make a normal dvd that can play on any player you'll have to reeencode it to mpeg2 and then author a dvd which will change the size.

I think my problem is the bitrate, I'm outputing the same format but I can't figure out what bitrate, I'm actually trying to put a couple of these 896mb movies on one disc w/a couple of extra stuff for a total of about 2.1 gig, my other files don't need no edits any help at what my bitrate for this file should be to roughly stay the same? I have options for a varible or constant rate.

Probably should do constant rate for a fixed result. Also check the tools section for a videobitrate calculator to determine what you need.

When I use the calculator for the 1.5hrs long video & it gives me the bitrate to use, will that cause the file size to get bigger? I thought that the bitrate it gives you is the lowest number you can use to fit on a dvd I'm trying to keep the same file size cuz' I'm putting more videos on 1 dvd
