Sorry couldnt find anything on the url...
MOV with H.264 is easy but
cant find anything about AVI with H.264
any ideas?

download installer. install.
use vdubmod. select x264 compressor, configure, encode.
avc in avi.
take existing h264 clip, extract to raw,
use avc2avi
avc in avi

Why would you want to put AVC in an avi file?
avc2avi should run fine under OS X and you can use mp4box or similar to extract the video from mov/mp4.
You can do this easily with SUPER encoder.
Also, you can do this with virtualdub and the unofficiall vfm x264 codec.
MeGUI also does it.

I just happen to encounter a lot of people on both the Windows and Mac side who'd rather not have much to do with CLI/console programs (me being an exception), so I tend to default to suggesting GUI applications first. Have to do something about that.
(That, and I was actually supposed to get some sleep for a change, this morning, not answer forum posts. Never happened.)
